Road Trip Wednesday is a ‘Blog Carnival,’ where YA Highway's contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question and answer it on our own blogs. You can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic.
This Week's Topic:
I give you an off-the-cuff blurb of a book, any genre, and you guys try to guess the book.
An eleven year old orphan learns he's a wizard and discovers he is the key to finally defeating super-bad-nasty guy who was believed vanquished.
=)
Too easy? What about...
A girl volunteers for a reality TV fight to the death in an arena to save her sister.
Anyone know these? Interesting to note that these are both pretty simple, maybe I need to look for that in the WIP.
Okay - I know the first one, but I can't place the second - it will be a "Doh" moment for me when I come back later to find out, right?
ReplyDeleteGot 'em both-- simple and straight to the point!
ReplyDeleteThose two are easy because they are prime examples of the elusive "high concept" book. If you can blurt it out in a quick one sentence like that, it's high concept. Sigh. Wish I could say the same for my books.
ReplyDeleteHmm... I have a feeling the second one is about that girl named Katniss... and the first... I have no idea?!?! Hahahah. Kidding. ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat one liners, ;)Wish I could sum up my wip in one sentence like that
ReplyDeleteActually, the first could be any number of books if the age was less specific! ;)
ReplyDeleteYay for high concept!
Yeah, it shows how simple high concept is... after the fact. Wish I could actually work it out for my stuff... like... before!!
ReplyDeleteTwo of my favorite books--nice picks!
