Bring me the popcorn instead

Road Trip Wednesday is a ‘Blog Carnival,’ where YA Highway's contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question that begs to be answered. In the comments, you can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic.

This Week's Topic:
What movie have you seen that actually (gasp!) improved on the book?

This week's questions stabs straight to my heart of 'books rule' with the chants and pthe placards and the insistance my kids will read Harry Potter before they see the movies. I think there's something so deep and immediate about a book and being in the character's head...

But...

And there's always a but. I find that if I see the movie first I can become attached to that condensed version and if it's done brilliantly then it can bring a scene to life in a way a book can't. Not better always... just different.

The one that springs to mind is Trainspotting. The book didn't show me the world the way the movie did. Both pretty intense though.

What about you, is there a movie you loved but the book was a bit ho-hum?

  1. I've not seen or read TRAINSPOTTING, but it certainly does go against the grain to admit there are some movies that are better than the books upon which they're based. However, there are exceptions to every rule. Books are still, on the whole, better. :)

  2. Oh, Trainspotting is an interesting one! I'm torn on that. I like both versions differently and for different reasons.

    1. Being torn is my usual state as an indecisive Libran so I get that!
